Barentsz, bears & beer
When Willem Barentsz attempted to navigate the northern passage, his crew fought twin terrors: polar bears and frozen beer. Our White Ale, with its refreshing fruity notes, is a tribute to the restless and rugged spirit that kept Barentsz going.
White Ale is a beer style typical to ‘The Lowlands’. We give ours an appealing twist by spiking it with both refreshing citrus and fragrant fruit.
REFRESHING & CRISP WITH A FRUITY, FLOWERY FINISH
The flesh of this bitter orange is completely inedible but the peel contains wonderful aromatics. It adds a mild citrus flavour and is the mein ingredient in our crisp White Ale.
Brewing with the fragrant blossom of the elder plant gives our White Ale its summer character and floral, sweet & fruity flavour.
Stemming from the Greek ‘chamai melon’ meaning ‘ground apple’ chamomile adds a crisp apple flavour and light floral character to our White Ale.
BREWED WITH CURAÇAO ORANGE, ELDERFLOWER & CHAMOMILE
The fragrant blossoms of the elder plant combined with the sharp citrus of a Curacao orange and floral character of chamomile created the perfect refreshing balance. Our White Ale is something we’re very proud of and is best enjoyed outdoors, with friends enjoying a mellow evening.
Courageous Curacao Orange
Much like our fearless explorer Barentsz, the courageous Curacao orange braved rough seas as well as unwelcoming temperatures before it came into existence. After such a journey we though the least we could do was follow the journey of the sharp citrus fruit that adds a kick to our refreshing White Ale.
Chamomile, the charmed one
The word chamomile derives from the Greek, chamaimilon, or “ground apple” to you and me. Rather fittingly this botanical brings a crisp apple flavour combined with a light floral note to our White Ale.

ABOUT BOTANICAL BREWING
Want to find out more about brewing with botanicals?
The Lowlander approach to beer and food pairing is simple: beer is even better with food and food is even better with beer.
Our White Ale is simply great enjoyed with light seafood dishes like this ceviche. The crisp and flowery flavour brings out the salinity. Often accompanied by red peppers or radish it cools the burn as well. Our White Ale is also a perfect foil to fatty cuts; contrasting with cured meat, mustard flavours and pickles it is a go-to beer that balances well with all kinds of charcuterie.
It’s time to expand your horizons if you tend to only drink beer straight from the bottle. There’s an exciting world of beertails waiting to be explored.
The Lowlander beers are all about bravery and botanicals, so are the Lowlander beertails. They combine the best of both worlds: liqueur and beer – win win. The result is a smooth, brave blend of beverages, perfect for anytime, really.
