Official press release (for Dutch version please contact annemieke@lowlander-beer.com):

Amsterdam, April 6th 2017 – Lowlander Beer has been awarded a silver medal for their White Ale during Dutch Beer Challenge 2017. The winners were announced on April 5th during a festive evening in Rotterdam. Chief Botanical Officer Frederik Kampman received the award, incredibly proud especially having launched Lowlander Beer only last year.

Lowlander Beer started its journey just 15 months ago and the first year has been nothing short of an adventure. It’s one of the fastest growing beers in The Netherlands and across borders. In 2016 they won 3 gold medals and the overall supreme trophy at the London International Beer Challenge, as well as a 5 star rating in the respected Difford’s Guide. A silver medal at Dutch Beer Challenge for their White Ale is now added to this. Lowlander is sharing the top three Dutch wheat beers with established breweries Jopen and ’t IJ.

Lowlander White Ale – Silver medal winner

White ale, or “witbier” is a beer style typical to The Netherlands. Lowlander gives their White Ale an appealing twist by spiking it with both refreshing citrus and fragrant fruit. It is brewed with different botanicals: Curacao orange peel, full of citrus aromatics; elderflower for a floral, sweet, fruity flavour and chamomile adding a crisp apple flavour.

Lowlander White Ale is an ode to Dutch navigator and arctic explorer Willem Barentsz. He was trying to find Indonesia but stranded on the islands of Nova Zembla where he had to face two fears: polar bears and frozen beer. Barentsz and his crew build a safe house from parts of the ship to shelter and protect their beers from the harsh winter.

Dutch Beer Challenge 2017

The 3rd edition of Dutch Beer Challenge is co-organized by the Brussels Beer Challenge, one of the most prestigious beer competitions in Europe, with the aim to promote the Dutch beer culture. In March, close to 300 beers were judged by a jury of both Dutch and independent beer experts as well as international specialists. They tasted blind in five main categories with a total of 21 subcategories.

About Lowlander Beer Co.

Lowlander Beer is inspired by the rich history of Dutch brewing combined with a passion for distilling. The Golden Age saw Dutch explorers travel the globe and return home with cargos brimming with precious herbs and spices. These botanicals soon made their way into Dutch beer, adding extra flavour. Inspired by the adventure and wanderlust of the ‘lowlanders’ to faraway lands, coriander, elderflower and chamomile are just some of botanicals used in the beers. Lowlander Beer brews refreshing, unique and tasty beers full of botanicals and bravery.
