Press release – HEMA releases a Tompouce Ale with botanical brewer Lowlander – and it is everything you’ve ever wished for. The milkshake-style blonde beer (5%) is brewed with vanilla and raspberry. Smooth and delicate with layered sweetness and fruity finish. And that’s every perk of the well-known pastry captured in a can. The limited edition Tompouce Ale is available from April 21st through the Lowlander webshop, HEMA webshop and HEMA stores.

HEMA and botanical brewer Lowlander joined forces for the very first time. The two brands, both typical for the ‘Low Lands’, found each other in their shared values such as optimism, bravery and the aim to make life more fun. The idea to turn two typically Dutch products into a completely new experience arose quickly. The result? A distinctive, naturally delicious beer inspired by the HEMA tompouce. As both brands shared their first announcement of the Tompouce Ale on social media on April 1st, thousands of positive responses came in. What looked like a joke, is now actually hitting the shelves.

David Cooke, Unit Director Food at HEMA, says enthusiastically: “Many of us love tompouces and beer. During lockdown we challenged ourselves to combine the two. After many attempts to find the perfect recipe, we are proud to say that we have created an exclusive Tompouce Ale in collaboration with botanical brewer Lowlander. We have managed to capture the sweet, vanilla and creamy tones of our famous HEMA tompouce and combine them with a milkshake-style blonde beer, without losing the main characteristics of the beer itself. A light, refreshing beer and a Dutch dream come true. Cheers!”

Most people are quite familiar with the classic flavour of the HEMA tompouce, so Lowlander has been working hard to bring the taste of nostalgia into a can. And it worked. As the botanical brewer adds fresh herbs, spices and fruits to the brewing process the most remarkable bursts of flavour appear. The addition of raspberry gives the beer a hint of subtle sweetness. The vanilla contributes to the soft and creamy finish. The perfect way to enjoy a tompouce without having to worry about how to eat it. The Tompouce Ale is a limited edition, so don’t wait too long to order – especially if you want to enjoy it on King’s Day too!
