Amsterdam, June 2018 – Lowlander Beer continues its travelling series of Botanical Brew Kitchen pop ups, starting July in the greenhouses of the “Oude Hortus” in Utrecht. With this unique dining experience Lowlander Beer opens up the minds (and palates) of like-minded explorers.

Lowlander Botanical Brew Kitchen Pop Up Dinners

In 2017, we decided to bring our beers back to nature, hosting a series of pop-up dinners in green spaces that are unique and a little unusual. From the experimental greenhouse in Rotterdam and one of the world’s oldest botanical gardens in Amsterdam to the open-air Taste Museum; we are constantly seeking out a novel place to commune and expand our horizons.

We kicked off early June with breezes and breath-taking views from three of Amsterdam’s undiscovered botanical rooftops. Roof to roof, dish to dish, beer to beer; with this first edition we literally expanded people’s horizons.

For the next Botanical Brew Kitchen pop up we will bring people together around a communal table set in the greenhouses of Oude Hortus in Utrecht. This secret green escape in middle of Utrecht has the oldest, existing university greenhouses of the Lowlands; a haven of peace in the hustle and bustle of the city.

Brewed With Botanicals, Cooked With Botanicals

Our Botanical Brew Kitchen celebrates the versatility of plants, herbs and spices and casts natural ingredients in a starring role. The menu – cooked with botanicals – takes a fiercely seasonal approach, with an emphasis on unfussy but incredibly flavourful dishes made with what’s regional, fresh and in season. The dishes showcase Lowlander’s unique flavours and stories and fuse together food and beer.

Like the food, the atmosphere is pared down. No distractions, no tablecloths, making people feel welcome – bringing to life the Dutch culture of ‘gezellig’ – feeling relaxed and comfortable, with a sense of straightforwardness.

Sustainable Farming, Foraging & Gardening

With these dinners we are not just celebrating the versatility of botanicals, we also like to bring attention to the importance of sustainable farming, foraging and gardening. For each pop up we will work with plant conservationists, sustainable lifestylers and creative chefs to showcase the extensive use of herbs, spices, peels, fruits, barks, leaves and the flavours coming from these botanicals.

Every dish served is harvested from the garden or supplied by friends from a local network of sustainably-minded foragers and growers.
